Colt New Navy Double Action Revolver .38 Long Colt - Collector's Information - Model 1895 U.S. Navy 1902 Contract Serial Number 191324

 

Colt Model 1895 U.S. Navy 1902 Contract Serial Number 191324 with 6" barrel - Factory blue finish with fire blue small parts and checkered hard rubber grips. One of 2,000 produced for the U.S. Navy. It has both a factory serial number (191324) and a Navy property number (No. 14065) marked on the butt. Additionally, the parts are matched by a separate assembly number (1335) which is present on the frame, crane, cylinder release, side-plate, and scratched inside each of the original hard rubber grips. The butt is marked U.S.N. over the Navy Anchor. Beneath this is the caliber designation ".38 D.A." and the "Triangle-B" civilian inspection marking and the initials "J.A.B." (both belonging to John A. Bell). The "Star-I" acceptance marking is found on the left side of the trigger guard, rear of cylinder, inside crane, beneath barrel, and on the cylinder release.

Colt Factory letter indicates Colt Navy Revolver serial number 191324, .38 cal, blue finish, rubber stocks, was sold to the United States Government and shipped to the General Storekeeper, Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY, on December 29, 1902, as part of a 250 gun shipment.

Colt Model 1895 U.S. Navy 1902 Contract Serial Number 191324 - Star with "I" marking on cylinder release along with assembler's mark "1335". This number is also scratched inside each of the grips from when they were fitted to the gun.
